    About Me

A little bit about my early history, my Career and my Passion

    Some Early History (circa 1974 - 1978)

As a teenager and having always having had an interest in anything technical led me on a path that would set my career course for the future. It probably began whilst as a young lad I frequently visited a local landfill tip looking for broken electrical items and often stripping out any useful parts that I might be able to make use of. This included starting to collect valves from the old TV sets (yes I'm showing my age now). Little did I know that me trying to collect a full set of valve types would actually lead to another benefit. This benefit was although I was only in my early teens I got a reputation for being able to fix peoples TV's! I simply looked into their TV looking for any valves that seemed burnt and replaced them with the same part from my collection... to the amazement of the TV owner this often did the trick and as a kid I walked away (1 valve down, but I knew there was more at the tip) and a few pennies in my pocket..  This early interest in Electrical and Electronics led to me at around 14 or 15 building my own DJ set up including decks, amps, speakers and disco light controller and lights, and of course some 500+ 45rpm singles (that I still have some 40+ years later).

Some slightly more Recent History (1978 - 1982)

So at 16 I had to find a job, I only had one interview, which was with a company called Plessey (latterly Siemens). A combination of the above story, and the demonstration of my own design of disco light controller seemed to impress the interview team and got me a job as an electrical and electronic apprentice.
